The issue of self-discovery is vital to every human being. If you want to get to where you are going, you will discard who people think you are. It is compulsory that you first believe who God says you are; fearfully and wonderfully made creature. The final thing is to discover yourself i. e. the purpose for your creation. Until you discover your purpose and your real self, you can not be fulfilled.
I remember when I was growing up. I used to be the tallest among my peers and most of the time, the youngest. I was jeered at for being so tall especially being a girl. Naturally I began to detest my stature. I was worried why I was so different. Some of my school mates didn’t make things easier; I was called different names like, tall, omoga, long leg etc. My primary school days were not easy. I once thought of having something that I could use to reduce my height. Thank God for an aunt of mine who vigorously warned me to always walk straight and tall and never to bend. Also, my friend’s mum (mama Fausa at Inabere) would always tell me “omo to singbonle” (commending my tall frame). Some children were not that lucky. In trying to reduce their height by bending their neck, they are left with a crouching stature till today.
I began to cherish my stature when I was chosen to represent my school Historical Society in a beauty contest. It then dawned on me that I had all the requirements; height, straight smooth legs (the leg they were abusing me with “omoga, ese gun). After that experience I told myself, never will I allow anyone body shame me again. Especially when I found that my short and average height friends did not qualify. Later on in life, I would have gone into modelling but for the fear of my father.
Like me, make up your mind today that the only person who can put a limitation on you is yourself. Never allow anyone tell you it is too late or that you can’t handle it. You will never discover how much you have in you until you kickstart yourself. Admitting you can’t, is a fast road to low self esteem. It is not how people see you that builds you up but how you see yourself. The only person who has the key to open the man inside of you is yourself. If you refuse to discover him and release him, he remains imprisoned in your body. We talk about destiny fulfillment and even pray against destiny truncaters, I hope you won’t be praying against yourself unknowingly.
Rise up today and show the world the blessing God has given them in you. Shalom!
